About this course

Lifestyle Medicine is an increasingly crucial element to transforming disease care systems to healthcare systems. Current medical services are unable to restore health because they do not address root causes.

In this course, you will learn the deficiencies within traditional Western Medicine and more effective lifestyle based treatment protocols used to prevent and treat chronic diseases of lifestyle.

You will learn about lifestyle medicine based treatments for the following chronic diseases:

  • Hypertension
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Angina/ Atherosclerosis
  • Type II Diabetes/ Obesity
  • Liver Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Breast Cancer

  • Recognize the core competencies of Nutrition, Tobacco Cessation, and Alcohol and their interaction with chronic diseases
  • Explain the difference in efficacies of traditional treatments vs. lifestyle based treatments

Nicholas King's background is in the field of Technology and Healthcare. He works for Cerner Corporation and implements Fetal monitoring interfaces on a day to day basis. Nick received his Masters in Health Informatics from the University of Missouri, Columbia. His undergraduate field of study was Management Information Systems. He enjoys working in Healthcare Technology because he gets to help in hospitals and work with technology at the same time. Through his job, Nick has had the privilege of experiencing healthcare in many different regions of the world including (UAE, UK, Ireland, and Australia). He finds it extremely rewarding to be able to learn and compare the styles healthcare across the world.
